Meeting discusses the accreditation of the HRCPP to the Unified Health System
A meeting held last Friday (8), hosted by the President of the Hospital Regional do Câncer de Presidente Prudente (HRCPP), Francelino Magalhães, and the mayor of Presidente Prudente, Nelson Bugalho, focused on the discussion and mobilization of civil society in search of the accreditation of HRCPP to the Unified Health System (SUS).
The meeting was attended by representatives of various segments of society, including mayors from various cities in the region, members of the State and Federal Public Prosecutor’s Offices, the judiciary, municipal and state legislatures, welfare institutions, etc.
The HRCPP president, Francelino Magalhães, started the meeting presenting the main reason for the union of those who were present: the mobilization for the search for accreditation and financial resources for the HRCPP. Francelino began his speech with the experience he had when traveling to Rosana (SP), as the vice president of the HRCPP, Hilário Pasquini.
“There we find humble people, who have no agreement, going to Jaú and Barretos, places that provide a great service in the area of oncology, walking more than 500km in search of treatment. This is sad. That is why, with the support of all, this hospital was erected. And what are we doing here today? Asking for the support, I extend my hand – in the name of the humble people – to you, authorities, regarding the money from SUS so that we can, more and more, give a good service to the people who need it, “explained Francelino.
According to HRCPP’s clinical director and urologist, Felipe de Paula, although the numbers of care have increased considerably, they are about to park, as the current operation of the hospital is funded through donations. “This hospital has the excellence of hospitals in São Paulo, such as the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Sírio Libanês and the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center. We can say, in a gross way, that if the HRCPP received the accreditation today, tomorrow we would start the surgeries and hospitalizations, “said Felipe de Paula.
For the mayor of Presidente Prudente, Nelson Bugalho, the first step is the union of the authorities of the region in search of the accreditation.
“We need to mobilize once more, now to get this accreditation. Whether through the state or federal government, the fact is that this is indispensable so that the hospital can serve the population in its fullness, “said the mayor.
What does HRCPP already do?
The services already offered by the hospital, as well as the ultramodern structure of the building, were presented by the HRCPP clinical director and urologist, Felipe de Almeida and Paula, based on the pillars that support the entity: prevention, care and research.
Regarding prevention, the clinical director emphasized the care given in the preventive efforts in the spheres of breast and prostate cancer. “Before even starting the care, the hospital already had the concern about prevention. Therefore, in 2014, under the management of the president of HRCPP at the time, José Hilário Pasquini, the men’s health clinic was created, “says Felipe.
The service counts on preventive actions – collection of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) and rectal examination – in men from cities in the region that have an agreement with the hospital. “In 2014, 731 appointments were made. As early as 2018, there were 3320, an increase of 354%. This year, the first mutirão, held on January 26, attended 193 men. ”
In the scope of the research, the clinical director exposed the main benefits related to the area: fundraising, credibility and feasibility of drugs, which are often extremely expensive, to the institution’s patients. In addition, the urologist has presented some publications that already carry the name of HRCPP and participation in institutional cooperation, such as the Latin American Renal Cancer Group (L.A.R.C.G.).
HRCPP was the first hospital in the region to set up an Ethics in Research Committee (CEP), an interdisciplinary and independent group of professionals, created to defend the interests of the people in their integrity and also to contribute to the development of the research.
The last pillar of the HRCPP, the care, was exposed through services already provided in the departments operating in the hospital. “We have services in the areas of anesthesiology, head and neck surgery, digestive surgery, cutaneous tumors, soft tissue and repair, pneumology and thoracic surgery, gynecology and mastology, hematology, neuro-oncology, clinical oncology, pediatric oncology, radiotherapy and uro-oncology, “explained Felipe.
Among the services in operation are: small surgery room – with about 40 procedures per month; infant and adult chemotherapy; radiotherapy; multiprofessional offices.
The clinical director presented the balance of care in 2018, with emphasis on the novelties for this year. “The HRCPP outpatient department performed 8,543 consultations between May and December 2018. In radiotherapy, 3320 patients were treated. In chemotherapy, the number of visits was 2,733, however, this year, this number should explode, since all chemotherapy of the Santa Casa de Presidente Prudente will be transferred to the HRCPP in May of this year, “he said.
This transfer is part of the mobilization in search of the accreditation of the HRCPP to SUS, since two general hospitals in Presidente Prudente are qualified for oncological treatment, however, with the centralization of cancer care in the HRCPP, the other hospitals may expand vacancies and care in other sectors of high complexity.
With the transfer of the oncology sector to the HRCPP, the Santa Casa de Misericórdia of Presidente Prudente will seek from the government agencies a greater ceiling for the growth of the attendances of other specialties of high complexity, such as cardiology, orthopedics and neurosurgery.
