High complexity procedure is part of the transfer of cancer care from Santa Casa de Presidente Prudente to the oncology unit

This morning (10), the first neurosurgery of the Hospital Regional do Câncer de Presidente Prudente (HRCPP) took place. The procedure was performed by Rodrigo Ferrari Fernandes Naufal and Felipe Gaia, neurosurgeons at HRCPP, together with a multidisciplinary team.

“It was the approach of a vertebral metastasis, decompressing the canal that was promoting a certain understanding in the patient’s spinal cord, causing the risk of it developing motor deficit in the four limbs”, explained the neurosurgeon.

The professional explains that, for this first procedure, it was decided to perform a spine surgery, because within this procedure there is no need to use a surgical microscope. HRCPP has already acquired high-tech instruments to perform procedures that address intracranial injuries, however, they have not yet arrived at the hospital.

“It is evident that HRCPP is a reality within highly complex surgeries, such as neurological surgeries, which we will be able to address deep lesions of the brain, with great safety for the patient in order to guarantee the removal of these lesions, without the occurrence of sequelae ”, Concludes Rodrigo Ferrari.

According to the HRCPP, this procedure is part of the services that were transferred from Santa Casa de Presidente Prudente to the institution. The procedures are funded via the Unified Health System (SUS), however, the high-tech materials / instruments that guarantee the efficiency of the surgery, are acquired with resources from community donations.

“For this reason, the hospital continues to request support from the community to ensure the best treatment for patients. We have funds from SUS that reach us via Santa Casa, since we do not have autonomous accreditation, but the amount is not enough to move forward. Anyone who can help, with 2, 10, 15 reais, will be forever grateful for our institution ”, concludes the HRCPP.
